EVERY YEAR GOES BY MORE QUICKLY

IS IT JUST ME? Or is everything accelerating? Well, here we are. The fourth of July was yesterday, yet Halloween will be done in three days. Christmas is less than eight weeks away.

You folks all know that I am a certified Christmas nut!

So, the passing of Halloween is my green flag to start setting up the annual celebration of the greatest event of all time. Of course, we are talking about God’s entry into the earth in the person of Emmanuel —God with us, revealed in us.

 “Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The Virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

(Isaiah 7:14)

Immanuel means “God with us, revealed in us.”

It is also my favorite name for Yehoshua, the Hebrew name of Jesus, meaning “Yaweh (God) saves,” and for Yeshua, the Aramaic name of Jesus.

In the first chapter of his Gospel, Matthew exhaustively traced Jesus’ lineage from Abraham to Joseph and Mary, documenting His Hebrew heritage. Then he wrote of the Virgin birth and punctuated it with this scene:

“Behold (pay attention), an angel of the Lord (Gabriel) appeared to him (Joseph) in a dream, saying: ‘Joseph, son of (descendant of) David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that Which is in her womb is conceived in her from the Holy Spirit.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Joseph was not the Father of Jesus. God in the person of Holy Spirit was.

She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Yehoshua, for He will save His people from their sins.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE

This is one of many scriptural confirmations that Jesus paid for all of our sins, past, present, and future, and has cast them out of His memory. Here are more: (Zephaniah 3:17, Psalm 103:1-3 and 12, Isaiah 53:4-5, John 1:29, John 3:14-18, 1 Peter 2:24, Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:10-18, Revelation 1:5) Notice that the Messenger of the Lord Gabriel did not say to Joseph that Jesus would save His people from their sins if they confessed, repented, got baptized, or sinned no more.

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken to the Prophet Isaiah; ‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel.”

(Matthew 1:20-23)

There is so much comfort in the name, “God With Us, Revealed In Us.” It reminds us that we are never alone. It reminds us that God the Father, God Holy Spirit, and God Jesus are always with us. It reminds us that they will never leave us or forsake us. It gives us the strength to deal with the vicissitudes of life.

AND FINALLY

A promise from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in His last statements to us:

“AND BEHOLD, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN UNTIL THE END OF THE AGE!”

(Matthew 28:20)

We can live in Peace and Rest and Joy, knowing that He is with us now and forever and that all we need to do to be with Him forever is to choose to believe, and believe in Him. (John 6:28-29)
