“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were accomplished, that the scriptures might be fulfilled, said, ‘I thirst‘. Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hysop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said; IT IS FINISHED!‘
Those are the three most important words in the Bible.
We need to know and understand what this declaration for the ages means.
It means that every single word Jesus spoke was, at that very moment, sealed and guaranteed by the shedding of His blood and His sacrificial death. The most horrible death any human has ever experienced or ever will.
It means that the eternal salvation of every living being was made available.
WHAT HAPPENED
Early in His ministry, Jesus explained what would happen to an arrogant High Priest named Nicodemus who knew who He was, but snuck out at night to question Jesus rather than boldly and publicly in broad daylight, falling to His Knees to worship Him.
“And just as Moses lifted the serpent in the desert on a pole, so must the Son of Man be lifted on the cross; so that WHOSEVER believes and believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life.
Because God so loves and dearly prizes the World (You! Fill in your name. Just the way you are. That He chose to become a human and sacrifice His earth suit for you personally) that He gave up His only begotten Son so that WHOSOEVER believes and believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
For God did not send the Son into the world to judge, to reject, condemn, to pass sentence on the world, (YOU) but that the World (YOU) might find SALVATION AND BE MADE SAFE AND SOUND THROUGH HIM.
He who believes and believes in Him is not judged or condemned; but he who does not believe, is judged already has been convicted and has received His sentence because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of Man.”
“IT IS FINISHED” meant that salvation for we gentiles was at that instant sealed!
AMAZING PROOF
At the very instant Jesus exhaled His last breath, stunning events happened to punctuate Jesus’s declaration.
THE VEIL IN THE TEMPLE WAS TORN IN TWO FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM!
The veil in the Temple that separated the Jews from God was torn in two. The veil separated the “Holy of Holies,” the room where the ark of the covenant that held the stone tablets given to Moses containing the Ten Commandments, from the rest of the Temple. No one except anointed High Priests was allowed inside that room, and then only once a year, to atone for the sins of the Jews. This meant that Jesus was now the only atonement for sins, and it freed the Jews from servitude to the “Law of Sin and Death” and forced obedience to the attached six hundred and three ordinances if they chose to believe in Jesus. He completed the fulfillment of the Law.
Jesus had told the people that the Law would be in force until they were completed, and that He had not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. In that instant He did both.
Now, in that split second, the Gentiles were saved by Jesus’s sacrificial death on the cross, as were the Jews who were made free from the impossible to keep Laws and Commandments.
There was a Solar Eclipse, and the sky went dark.
A massive earthquake opened the tombs, and Zombies (dead folks) walked the streets of Jerusalem. The thief on the cross, who had not been baptized and had not confessed and repented, was taken to paradise just because he believed, and believed in Jesus. A Roman centurion who had helped kill Jesus admitted that Jesus was truly the Son of God. Nicodemus confessed that Jesus was God.
Every one of the Great and Precious Promises of Jesus was guaranteed and fulfilled.
Here is just one of those promises, as stated by Peter:
“Simon Peter, a servant and Apostle (a special messenger with a special message) to those (those who believe and believe in Jesus)who HAVE RECEIVED (meaning, already, past present tense) like precious faith with ourselves (The faith of Jesus) in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus (not our works, Ephesians 2:8-12)
May Grace and Peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord!
Grace is God’s willingness, power, and ability that has done for us those things that we can not or will not do for ourselves, such as being saved.
Peace is a state of being completely undisturbed, freedom from all fear and agitation.
Because His divine power has bestowed upon us ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence.”
Some of those things that have been bestowed upon us are:
Eternal salvation and life in His glorious Heaven.
(John 3:14-18)
The indwelling Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and show us the things to come.
(John 14-16)
Healing of all diseases, maladies, infirmities, sicknesses, and calamities. (Isaiah 4-5, Psalm 103:1-3, Matthew 8:6-7)
Forgiveness of all sins, past, present, and future.
(Isaiah 4:5, Psalm 103:1-3 and 12, John 1:29, Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:10-18,Revelations 1:5)
The power to speak things into and out of existence:
(Mark 11:22-24)
The ability and power to do the same things Jesus did while He was on Earth, and even greater than them.
(John 14:12-14)
Authority and power over the evil one and his minions.
(Luke 10:18)
The power and ability to gain wealth:
(John 10:10, Luke 6:38, 2Corinthians9:6)
These are just a few of the tremendous blessings that were poured upon us in that blink of an eye. All that we need to do to receive them is to believe and believe in “The One Who He Has Sent”
(John 6:28:29)
