Following is an unusual message from Holy Spirit, but here it is. BE PREPARED!
Those words are not just the Boy Scout slogan. Jesus taught frequently about being prepared:
Jesus taught that being prepared means living a vigilant, faithful life, ready for His return, primarily through parables like the Ten Virgins and the Talents, emphasizing spiritual readiness, good works, prayer, and continuous connection with God, not just physical readiness. Preparation involves using the gift of His faith, serving others, studying scripture, and staying alert to temptation and worldly distractions, ensuring one isn’t caught spiritually unprepared.
Jesus taught us that the ultimate preparation is to believe in Him, which is the only requirement for receiving His eternal salvation and blessings.
(John 6:28-29)
But here are more of His instructions about being prepared.
The Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13): The wise virgins brought extra oil (representing spiritual readiness/grace) for their lamps and were prepared for the delayed bridegroom, while the foolish ones weren’t and missed the celebration.
Watchfulness (Matthew 24:42, Luke 12:35-40): Jesus urged His followers to “keep watch,” be “dressed for service,” and have their “lamps burning,” like servants waiting for their master to return at any hour.
The Talents (Matthew 25:14-30): This parable highlights using God-given gifts faithfully in service, as a form of preparation for the master’s return, rather than burying them through fear or laziness.
Be Ready (Matthew 24:44): “You also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect”.
Changing directions, but still very important, we need to be prepared for every situation that life introduces to us.
DON’T PANIC, BUT BE PREPARED FOR WHAT MAY BE COMING!
For those of you in Atlanta, The National Weather Service is predicting a significant ice storm to hit North Georgia, including Atlanta, beginning Saturday and lasting through Monday.
The worst-case scenario is for up to three-quarters to one inch of ice. Folks, that would mean widespread long-term power outages and hazardous walking and driving conditions.
Those of us who survived the 1973 Ice storm will never forget the impact. At one time, 75% of the city was without power for days, some for a whole week.
Stores were closed because there was no way to resupply them. The damage from falling trees was astounding. And that was less than half an inch of ice.
The weather is very unpredictable. We all know how frequently the predictors are wrong. This time, there is a great deal of science behind this prediction.
There are likely to be some of us without electricity for some period of time.
THEY COULD BE WRONG
There is a slim possibility, as there is with all weather events, that this could be a nothing burger, but I would not bet on it.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Ask God the Father to assign Angels! Jesus told Peter that He could call on the Father, that the Father would send twelve legions of Angels to rescue Him, and that we can do the same things He did and even greater things than He did. (Matthew 26:53 and John 14:12-14)
By far the most dangerous part of an ice storm is falling trees and tree limbs. I always thank God for assigning Angels to hold up the trees and heavy branches in and around my yard. I have lived in a forest for nearly fifty years, and some trees have fallen away from my house, but none near it! Thank you, Jesus!
These meteorologists, with their multi-million-dollar radars and other equipment, are still not very good at predicting the weather. As I wrote earlier, this could be a dud. It has happened before. But be prepared just in case.
Prepare to shelter in a warm place in freezing weather for an extended time with no electricity, whatever it takes. If this does happen, be prepared not to be able to go to the store, as driving will be impossible. Stores will be without electricity, and even if they are open, the shelves will be empty. People have already begun panic buying.
If it happens, please stay inside. Walking and driving on ice is insane.
Be informed. Stay tuned to weather reports from the National Weather Service. If you overprepare and this turns out to be nothing, you still win.
