“Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips the Lord Jesus, and in your heart you believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved! For with the heart one believes and is justified,and with the mouth he confesses and is saved. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. But how shall they call upon Him Whom they have not believed, in whom they have no faith? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent?”
(Romans 10)
Mr.D is a fantastic man and one of the greatest pilots ever. Mr.D was one of my first and most generous Donor Partners. Our first Bible Study Group was at the pilots lounge conference room at his home airport. He owned and operated an Air Charter Service, they flew passengers and cargo. A couple of his pilots Mr.K and Mr. W helped me start the ministry. Mr.K was a very generous giver and Mr. W who is now an international Challenger pilot and real estate investor, built our first website. I promise I will write more about Mr. D and Mr. W. I have great stories about each.
At this writing, I want you to enjoy Mr. K. For brevity, I will refer to him as K. K is just a barrel of monkeys. He always makes me laugh. K. is a natural born flyer and when I knew him he was a certified flight Instructor and also a certified instrument instructor (a CFII). Mr.K knew how much I loved to fly so one day he called and asked, “I am scheduled to fly all week, would you like to fly with me?” Do bears bear?
We flew the king air and the Cessna Caravan and K’s beautiful Cessna 172. K taught me a great deal that week about instrument flying. I have many great stories about my adventures with Mr.K. K is a man of many talents. Most Important, he is a sold out Jesus Freak. He is a skilled General Contractor and is good with anything mechanical. He is also a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Veteran and American Hero. You can imagine how well we enjoyed each other.
All that week before every take off and at every landing K. repeated the same phrase to assist his memory, it went like this, “Spectacles, Testi@#$%s, Wallet and Watch” I must have heard it at least 25 times that week. Every time he said it, I repeated it because that is what co-pilots do in the air. They repeat every instruction.
On the following Saturday, I was to speak at the Largest African American Church in Marietta. I was to be the lead speaker at the men’s conference. I invited my son and a fellow Pastor whom I admired, to come and hear the great message the Holy Spirit had given me; about how Jesus conquered the evil one and gave us dominion over all of his powers, abilities, minions, angels etc, . And that nothing shall in anywise harm us. K was sitting right next to my son.
As I stood at the Pulpit I was very excited because the crowd was much larger than the Minister had told me it would be. The room was packed. It was a complete sell out with standing room only. Minister Phillip loved me and he pre-sold me to the men. I was determined to live up to his claims. I will write about how we met another time, it was a profound act of God!
The time came, the Holy Spirit told me to go, and I was off. I was preaching up a Holy Ghost Storm. The Men were eating it up. We were on a roll! When I got to the part about how Jesus conquered satan, this is what came out of my mouth:
“Yes my brothers, Jesus made an open testi@#le, of satan!!!!!”
What I meant to say was: “Jesus made an open spectacle of satan!”
In that instant I knew exactly how Ralphy felt!!! Let’s just say that the men began to howl! My son fell out of his seat.! I had really hoped that nobody would here it, but they did! Shock and Mortal Embarrassment hardly explain what was going on inside of me. The Holy Spirit told me not to skip a beat and I didn’t! I played it all off and closed with a bang!
Much to my surprise, the laughter largely subsided by the time I finished, though I have a vision of Jesus laughing himself silly the whole time. The men told me that they loved the message as literally every man came up to me and asked for me to pray with them before I left. They liked me so much that the Sr. Pastor asked me to fill in for him when he went on vacation, and speak to the full 600 member congregation. He read my book and told me he loved it. That Sunday the big sanctuary was also sold out.
After the service, many folks asked me to pray with them. A few of the men came up and laughed with me about my gaff. I fell in love with them and they fell in love with me. They invited me several more times and each time the crowd was larger and more receptive.
Ok, so if you are through laughing, here is the lesson learned from this situation.
The more you hear something the more it connects to your lexicon. Often that phrase becomes a paradigm (twenty cents).
My earth Dad owned an Advertising agency. One day we were in a presentation with a large client and one of the key executives having read the media plan, asked regarding frequency: “How many times must a commercial be heard before it is remembered and acted on? Before I could answer the question mathematically, my Dad replied, “Billy Graham says it takes 7 times!”
I heard K say that phrase 25 times at least.
Which brings me to today’s message. Jesus spoke to this reception issue in the Parable of the Sower. He engaged the issue with a parable about planting good seed into well prepared soil:
“And other seed fell into good (well adapted soil) and brought forth grain, growing up and increasing, and yielding up to 30,60 and even 100 times as much as had been sown!”
(Mark 4:8)
I could teach on the meaning of this one teaching for years.
Lets start with a rudimentary explanation. When we turn to Jesus for real! Not lip service. Not for fire insurance. Not when we put our personal relationship with Jesus down as item 26 on our to-do list. Not when we only come to Jesus or his messenger when we have a crisis or mountain of unsolvable circumstances. Not when we spend more time drinking than listening to Jesus. Not when work, politics, sex, exercise, business, family, the vicissitudes of life, nor the cares of this world, or our almighty precious time….come first.
But when we hunger and thirst for Jesus and His righteousness, with all of our hearts, Then And Only Then will the Holy Spirit plant His Seed Which Is The Word Of God Deeply In Our Spirits! When We Train Our Selves To Listen To Jesus Repeatedly, We Know His Voice. And in His voice are the answers to ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS!” IN JESUS’ WORDS WE RECEIVE FROM HIM THE POWER TO OVERCOME EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. IN THE WORDS OF JESUS ARE HEALING, PROSPERITY,DOMINION OVER ALL OF THE POWERS OF THE EVIL ONE, JOY, HEALTHINESS AND THE BEQUEATHAL OF THE SAME POWER THAT RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, TO US!
In order to receive we must believe Jesus beyond the shadow of a doubt, He has already given us everything we will ever need or want. We must use His faith that He gave to us when we accepted Him. If we are willing to listen to Jesus repeatedly, we will become new creations, old things will pass away and everything will be new and of God.
Challenge yourselves honestly and ask what percentage of your time is spent listening to, praising, believing, quoting, studying, sharing, and learning the Words of Jesus?
Regarding Repetition, Jesus spoke these Words:
“For there is nothing hidden except to be revealed, nor is anything kept secret except in order that it may be made known. If any man has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him perceive and comprehend. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE HEARING! THE MEASURE OF THOUGHT AND STUDY YOU GIVE TO THE TRUTH YOU HEAR WILL BE THE MEASURE OF VIRTUE AND KNOWLEDGE THAT COMES BACK TO YOU AND MORE BESIDES WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU WHO HEAR!”
(Mark 4:22-24)
I Pray that you will sincerely choose to re-dedicate your entire being to our King Jesus! IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO CHANGE! If you do, the blessings you receive will make you a shining light upon a hill! You will attract many and draw them into the kingdom by your virtue, goodness and success.
This world needs Jesus more than ever!!!!!!
Don’t let your life blow by without receiving and using the power that Jesus died to give you. Come to Jesus all you who are weary and heavy laden, and HE WILL GIVE YOU REST!! Listen and learn of Him for He is meek and lowly of heart. His yoke is light and His burden is easy!
LISTEN TO JESUS AND BE HAPPY! Laugh and Jesus will laugh with you and even harder than you laugh!
