THE MESSAGE
“Love is patient; Love is kind.”
We hear the famous love scripture at every wedding we attend. It usually goes in one ear and out of the other.
This hugely important teaching is most often left alone until those weddings. However; it is one of the most powerful of the Holy Spirits teachings to us. Why?
God is Love!!!! Jesus is Love!!! The Holy Spirit is Love!!
We all need to perceive to the best of our ability how Jesus loves us and what His Love is.
Jesus has commanded us to lead with Love in all of our encounters. He has commanded us to love each other as
He has loved us. And He has told us to love one another.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”
(John 13:34-35)
Jesus loved us so much as individuals that He died the most horrible death anyone ever has, or will, so that we can have heaven on earth and so that He would have us with Him in Love for all of eternity. Because we are His glorious inheritance.
How then are we to live in Love if we don’t understand what Love is?
“If I speak with the tongues of men and angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s Love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].
And if I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and possess all knowledge; and if I have all sufficient faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have Love [reaching out to others], I am nothing.
If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have Love, it does me no good at all.
Love endures with patience and serenity; Love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; Love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.
It is not conceited, arrogant, and inflated with pride. It is not rude and does not act unbecomingly, Love does not insist on its rights or its way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not fretful or worried or touchy or resentful; IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS!
It does not rejoice at injustice but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of specialized knowledge, it will pass away.”
Let’s consider the critical ingredients that make up the kind of Love that Jesus asks us to walk in:
“Love is patient. Love is Kind. Love is thoughtful.”
Patience is the most difficult of all of these for me. When Jesus knitted me in the womb, my brain thought he said, patients. The Holy Spirit works with me on this every day. He has taught me that the key to patience is living in this present moment.
“Love is kind”. I have been blessed to know many kind people. Kind people are those who care more about others and their well being than their own. The Holy Spirit always leads kind people.
Kind people are generous givers. They give cheerfully and with joy in their hearts. Kind people share what they have with others, especially the more unfortunate people.
Kind people run the PTA, and they sing in the choir.
Kind people love to bring happiness and joy to others. Kindness is its own reward. Nothing on this earth generates the joy of kindness.
“Love is thoughtful”. This means that loving people are always mindful of other peoples fears, worries, anxieties, and needs.
Thoughtful people are excellent listeners. They listen carefully to others and respond only when appropriate. Thoughtful people are aware of the actions needed to help others achieve peace, joy, and happiness. Thoughtful people are concerned about the feelings of others.
Love is not jealous or envious; it does not brag; it is not proud or arrogant.
KABOOM! This means that folks who walk in Love do not consider themselves superior to anybody. It means that people who walk in Love are not narcissistic and vane, and it does not slap itself on the back.
“Love is not conceited, arrogant, and inflated with pride.
Love is not RUDE and does not act unbecomingly. Love does not insist on its own rights or its own way for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it and pays no attention to a suffered wrong.”
That one section could be taught on every day for a year and not begin to cover all of the meat it contains:
NO CONCEIT, NO ARROGANCE, NO INFLATED PRIDE, NO SELF FIRST, NO TOUCHY OR FRETFUL, NO SCORE KEEPING.
How are we doing on these ingredients? I know some rock hard dogmatic people who will fight to the death over their incorrect but cemented paradigms and doctrine.
Even if their understanding fly’s in the face of the true nature of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Scorekeeping is a deadly poison. It leads to bitterness, jealousy, envy, pride, judgment, anger, resentment, stress, and most important; UNFORGIVENESS. It creates toxic poison in the body.
Think about this. Jesus wiped the whiteboard of our sins
clean and white as snow. There are no marks, demerits, frowny faces, or sins, written on our slates. How then,
can we keep a scorecard of hurts, mistreatment, and other wrongs that people have put on us?
Forgiving a person and seeing the best in them, is an incomparable release.It brings pure joy and good things into our bodies. Keeping score only makes us sick.
Jesus taught us to forgive others as freely and completely as He has forgiven us.
Self-driven Godless people who live by the flesh and despise what is right. Darkness hates the light. These people believe that morality is wrong and wrong is right. When evil wins, they are happy.
Love bears up under anything, and everything that comes, it is ever ready to believe the best in every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything without fading.
LOVE NEVER FAILS.
What you just read is what the love of Jesus means. It defines how deeply Jesus loves us. Never forget it. Study it. Ingest it. Make it how you live.
