For three days and three nights, Jesus was in the bowels of hell defeating satan, disease, death and paying the price for your justification! He suffered a death beyond all imagination. He died from every disease known and unknown to man. He payed for sins you can not even imagine. As he died that horrid death, the worst most painful death any human has experienced, He cried out to God and asked why His Father had forsaken Him. The answer was that Jesus had become the sins of all man kind. He had been beaten and tortured and whipped and crucified. He was not recognizable as a human being. And do you believe that this price that He paid can be one upped by your behavior?
Many people ask where in the Bible it says that Jesus went to hell:
Matthew chapter 12 verse 38: “Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, Teacher, we desire a sign or miracle from You [proving that You are what You claim to be]. But He said to them, An evil and adulterous generation (a generation morally unfaithful to God) seeks and demands a sign , but no sign shall be given to it except for the sign of the prophet Jonah. For even as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the bowels of the earth.”
Do you ever ask God for a sign? The sign is the death, burial, resurrection, 40 days of walking the earth after the resurrection and ascension to heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father, far above all rule dominion and authority in this life and in the life to come, and EVERY knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the Glory of God!
As Easter approaches, allow the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts to the impossibility of pleasing God by your performance, and what Jesus did to save and bless you. Paul said that if we place ourselves under a works or performance based relationship with God, we have rejected Jesus and His grace. (Galatians 2:21)
