“And now let me remind you brothers of the Gospel the glad tidings of salvation which I proclaimed to you, which you welcomed and accepted and upon which your faith rests, And by which your are saved, if you hold fast and keep firmly what I preached to you, unless you believed at first without effect and all for nothing. For I passed on to you first of all what I also had received, that Christ the Anointed One died for our sins in accordance with what the Scriptures foretold, That He was buried, that He arose on the third day as the Scriptures foretold, And that He appeared to Cephas (Peter) then to the twelve, then later He showed Himself to more than five hundred brothers at one time the majority of whom are still alive, but some have fallen asleep [in death].”
“Afterward He was seen by James , then by all of the Apostles (the special messengers), and last of all He appeared to me also as to one prematurely and born dead no better than an unperfected fetus among living men. For I am the least worthy of all the apostles, who am not fit or deserving to be called an apostle, because I once wronged and pursued and molested the Church of God oppressing it with cruelty and violence.” Paul the Special Messenger sent by Jesus to teach us the gentiles. (1Corinthians 15:1-9)
In the 27th chapter of Matthew we learn the gruesome manner in which Jesus was punished by being savaged mercilessly with shard tipped whips and beaten senseless and hung on a cross and pierced in his lungs with a spear until all of His bodily fluids drained. All of this He did to fulfill the prophecies that were written about Him, and to free the Jews from the ten commandments and the 603 attached ordinances, and to bring salvation to all the non-jews (gentiles/us), and to pay the price for our sins once and for all! And to usher in the church age of Grace through faith.
Jesus breathed His last breath on the cross and said, “IT IS FINISHED”. Then He was sent to hell for three days and three nights to pay for our sins, over come death and the evil one, parade satan around in the heavens with a chain around his neck and a sign that said defeated foe. Then He arose from the dead, walked on the earth for 40 days and nights and then ascended to the Father, where He is seated at His right hand; far above all rule dominion or principality and every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God!
At the moment Jesus died, the skies were black, the earth shook, their was a mighty earth quake, the veil of the temple that separated the Jews from the Holy of Holies was torn into, and Jesus drew all men to Himself.
When Jesus died and was resurrected and then walked the earth and ascended to The Father, 353 specific prophecies were fulfilled. 44 of which were specific to the life of the Messiah. The probability of 8 prophecies being fulfilled in one persons life is 10 to the 17th power, that is 10 with 17 zeros following. The Odds of the 44 prophecies is 10 to the 157th power, thats a ten with 157 zeros. One mathematician explained the probability of just 44 fulfilled prophecies being fulfilled like this: take a silver dollar and put a mark on it. Fill the entire land mass of the state of Texas with silver dollars knee deep. Drop the marked dollar from an airplane at some random point. Take a blind person and tell them to find that silver dollar, and they do find it immediately. Now try to imagine the odds of 353 prophecies being fulfilled by the life of Jesus.
Remember that all of this was done because God loved you so much that He was willing to go to any length to ransom you from the price of your sins, which is eternal damnation. Meditate on how much our wonderful God/Jesus loves you!
