Dear Partners, We were out of town last week on a ministry trip to Florida where we were able to teach, minister to and pray with several folks.
We attended a fantastic Bible study group taught by a highly anointed Jesus appointed teacher. At that study we were asked what makes men obey Jesus. I thought it was a great question.
The answer is the love of Jesus and our new man. When we accept Jesus it means that we make a decision to believe that He as God loved us so much that he came to this earth, suffered all the indignities of life as a human, was tempted at all points but did not sin, was tortured to death and suffered in hell for 3 days and 3 nights to pay for our sins, Just to reconcile us.
When we accept Jesus for real we choose to believe that he bore all of our illnesses, maladies, infirmities, sadness and mental diseases in His body on the tree, so that they are now illegal invaders. We understand that He reconciled us to Himself, He ransomed us from the evil one and eternal damnation, found us completely not guilty and put us in right standing with Him.When we accept Jesus,we have chosen to accept the fact that we are Holy, Blameless and beyond correction in His sight, that He also payed for our sins once for all; past, present and future. When we accept Jesus, we choose to believe that God has delivered us from the power of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son.
When we accept Jesus we make a decision to believe that Jesus gave us the ability to live in a state of grace (God’s willingness, ability and power to do those things for us that we can not or will not do for ourselves; through living in this present moment, with joyful expectation of the things that we can not see, that Jesus promised.
When we make that decision in truth, not words, an overwhelming love for Jesus comes over us and the love of Jesus and our love for Him drives us to want to please Him and become like Him. Jesus called this being born again.
When we accept Jesus for real not for fire insurance, when we completely give Him our lives and choose to make Him the most important thing in our lives. We die. Paul said it is not I that lives but Jesus that lives within me. He also said that we are new creations in Jesus, all things old have passed away and all things are new and of God. Paul taught us to take off our old man with its sin nature and put on the new man. The new regenerate man has these qualities:
Peace, Love, Gentleness, Patience, Kindness, Meekness (is teachable) Forgiveness, has made a decision to believe every single word that Jesus said beyond the shadow of a doubt, believes that Jesus guaranteed every word He spoke with His blood, is not anxious, not hateful, not fearful, does not worry, has no fear of financial insecurity, does not resent or hold grudges, does not get drunk on wine because that is debauchery, but instead is filled with the Holy Spirit.
None of us is or ever will be perfect in our flesh! But when we accept the love of Jesus we are compelled by our Spirit man who is perfect,to become like Jesus. Jesus does not judge or condemn us when we fall short. Instead His Holy Spirit speaks to us and convinces us that poor behavior is not what we want.
The leader of the Bible study mentioned that one of the reasons that we obey Jesus is that it feels so good when we do. That is so true. It feels good to be good! It feels good to be kind and generous. It feels good to walk away from a fight. It feels good to let go of bitterness, fear, anxiety, superiority, smart assedness, obsessive competition, having to always be right, control freakism, pissoffedness, meanness, doubt and unbelief. It feels good to let go of snobbishness, self centeredness, hypochondria, fear of financial insecurity, addictions, compulsions, impulsiveness, behavior based on moral relativisim. It feels good to do the right thing when it is so easy to do the wrong thing. It feels good to believe positive thoughts and reject negative thoughts, It feels good to give up complaining. It feels good to bless people not curse them. It feels good to give and receive the love of Jesus.
Becoming a new man, a Jesusan, is a choice that we make daily, hourly, moment by moment. When we do, we can live in joy unspeakable.
