So one of my partners asked him a great question. One that I hear constantly in one form or another. She asked if the problems he is now having aren’t Gods punishment for the sins he committed earlier. Be careful not to rush to judgement of this wonderful Christian lady. She is merely stating what she has been taught and has heard in her Christian education and many of you have asked me similar questions. So lets answer the question with scripture.
Does God discipline those He loves. Absolutely! It says that clearly in Hebrews chapter 12 and Revelations Chapter 3. But, what people does He discipline? His Children. Which Children? Every human being is His child whom He dearly loves. So whom does He discipline/ which means lead to repentance/ which means leads to accept Jesus? Those who haven’t accepted Jesus and His forgiveness.
Does God punish Christians for their past sins today? No. Jesus paid the price for all sins, past, present and future, once for all on the cross. (Hebrews 10:10)
“How does God punish those He punishes? With His Word. “Every Scripture is God breathed and profitable for instruction, for reproof, for correction of error and discipline in obedience and for training in righteousness.” (2Timothy3:16)
Ask yourself this question, why would God punish you for sins that He tied the most horrific death ever experienced to pay for?
No, Folks, God is Love just like they taught us in Sunday School!
“For God So Loved The World That He Gave His Only Begotten Son”
Remember the story of the prodigal son in Luke chapter 15 and the Adulterous woman in John chapter 8. Jesus was required to punish both for their sins but did not. Why?
His own words, “I have not come into the world to judge it or condemn it but that it would be saved through me. (John 3:17)
