“32 Pappa Lima You are clear for immediate departure from runway 2 left!!!” It was a chamber of commerce day. High pressure. Blue Skies. And the Controller was busy. He had three in the pattern and when he said immediate he meant get the heck off of my runway.My flight instructor was a meticulous guy. He was by profession an engineer and Bob could take an airplane apart and put it back together again. We never half assed a preflight. We were both about safety first. So we got under the hood and checked the engine, belts, hoses, and then we checked all of the surfaces. We checked the fuel for water and checked and double checked the oil. We went strictly by the book. Everything checked out 100%.I climbed into the left seat. Set the altimeter and the radio’s, wound up the engine, and called ground control.”Peachtree ground this is Cherokee 32 Lima Papa ready to taxi to the active runway”. “32 Lima Papa, you are clear to taxi to the warm up area and hold short of runway 2 left.”I looked over and Bob who loved to take video’s while we flew,was loading up a camera while watching and grading every move I made. I wanted a perfect grade on this flight, so I was intensely concentrating. We got to the run up area and we went trough all of our required pre-flight engine checks. We ran her up did the mag checks,RPM’s were perfect, checked the fuel gauges and the oil pressure, and as my Uncle Jim said, “everything was green in the garden”. One more double check of all the instruments and everything looked great. We were going to climb out make and easterly turn and fly to my home town of Madison as we had many times, for touch and goes, then over to Athens, Gainesville, Dahlonega, more touch and goes at Cherokee county airport, down to Charlie Brown and back to PDK. It was going to be a busy day.We took that immediate literally, I could see a jet on final for our runway and I had no intention of getting landed on. So I throttled up and we started our roll out. Everything was still green in the garden as we rotated (the wheels left the ground). We started to climb and my next act would be to call the controller, wish him good day and switch over to Atlanta departure control, but something was wrong. I could feel old Lima Papa, which I had flown many times acting sluggishly, I looked at the rate of climb indicator and the altimeter, we were at 150 feet and climbing but the rate of climb was near stall speed, I looked at the oil pressure gauge and it was dropping like a rock. We were way past the point of no return. As Bob leaned over and looked at the instruments, He saw what I was seeing. We were up the creek. We were facing an engine off stall at any moment. I had no time to think.Yet, I did think. My first thought was that the engine was going to freeze or blow up at any second. I called the tower. “Peachtree Tower this is 32 Lima Papa, declaring an emergency and requesting immediate return to runway 2 Left.” Back came the controller, “Lima Papa, you are cleared for immediate landing on 2 left.” I remembered that Jet that was on final and prayed that he had cleared the runway. The quick thinking controller did his part by immediately diverting all of the traffic in the pattern. We did a sharp turn and down the down wind leg, then a quick base turn then. turned immediately on final and greased the landing. Bob gave me an A plus.I wasn’t scared while the situation was going on, but Bob had to pull me out of the cockpit when we got back to the parking area. My body turned to jello.It took me a couple of days before my hands stopped shaking. It’s funny what happens in a situation like that. My life didn’t flash before my eyes, my training took over immediately. Bob was telling me what to do in my headset, but he didn’t have to. I knew. Bob was ready to take over at any second if I screwed anything up, but he didn’t have to because I became a robot.The rental service told us later that the mechanic had checked Papa Lima over and the problem was a pool of oil in one of the cylinders. Why that wasn’t indicated in the run ups or preflight, I will never know. And by the way, thanks for renting us an airplane with a faulty cylinder.Yes, I remembered that time when the 9 year old who couldn’t swim had his boat sink. But, this was different. I was ready this time.Now what does this have to do with Jesus and scripture? Everything. Jesus has given us the solution to all of life’s problems. And just like in flight training, we must learn the rules and regulations and procedures for successful life so that we are prepared for the vicissitudes of our lives. Often we encounter uncontrollable variables. We have circumstances pop up unexpectedly that require immediate action. If we know the Gospel of Jesus, we will always be prepared for any circumstances and our training will take over.Some food for your Spirit:Don’t pray and ask Jesus to do things that He has already done. Instead, use the faith (His Faith) which He gave us freely, to receive what He gave us through His willingness, power and ability to do those things that we can not or will not do for ourselves. Don’t pray for healing! Jesus healed you on the cross by carrying all disease known and unknown to man in His body on the tree. (Isaiah 53:4&5) When you have a symptom or a negative report from a doctor, speak to all of the 300 trillion cells that make up your body and command them to rise up and destroy all illness, illegal invaders, and rebellious cells, as Jesus has empowered us to. (John 14:12-14 Mark 11:22-24) Never agree with a negative health report! Celebrate your healing!Don’t pray and ask God to give you things, Like: Jobs, Homes, Money, etc. Jesus already gave you all things that pertain to life and Godliness through the knowledge of His Son. (2Peter1:1-3) Instead, seek first His righteousness and His glory (make a decision to believe Jesus beyond the shadow of a doubt) and then all these things will be added unto you. Not because Jesus will give them to you at that time, but because He has already given them to you and you will be receiving them by faith. (Matthew 6:33)Don’t ask Jesus to get satan off of you. Don’t run around chasing off demons and anointing your home with oil to get rid of the evil ones minions. satan has no power in our lives at all!!!!! He is a defeated foe!!! Jesus beheld satan fall from heaven like a bolt of lightning! And Jesus gave us dominion over the burnt up canker worm and all of his angels and demons! And nothing shall in anywise harm you. All the evil one and his cohorts can do is Lie. The only power they have is to sucker you into believing their Barbara Streisand (BS). Their biggest lie is that Jesus didn’t mean what He said. Their next biggest lie is that Jesus is not God. Then follows a daily dialogue of self judgment, condemnation, fear, anxiety, worry, jealousy, discontent, disturbed-ness, anger, bitterness, resentment, score keeping, negative thinking, doubt and unbelief. All based on lies. The only truth is what Jesus taught!(Luke 10:18-20) If you want to get rid of satan, all you have to do is stop listening to negative voices.99% of the bad things that happen to us in life are because we listened to a negative thought or broadcast a negative prophecy that we are now living in, not because of the devil. The problem is us!So, memorize the Gospel (good news) of Jesus so that you will be ready. Put on the full armor of God and use it! (Ephesians 6:13-17) Make a decision to be happy and joyous and free. Re-Joy yourselves daily! Be anxious for nothing but in all things give thanks to Jesus and the peace that passes all understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Him and you will be prepared. (Philippians 4:4-8)Scour and Memorize Jesus’ flight manual of life, as if your life depended on it.
