(DISCLAIMER: Please read this disclaimer carefully and accept it, before proceeding to read this Holy Spirit inspired teaching on Biblical health and healing. I have been accused of murder by over-teaching. It has been said that people have heard me teach, or read my teachings on faith and healing, and stopped taking their medicine and died. I pray that this is not true. I have never knowingly advised anybody to not go to a doctor or stop taking medicine. That would be the height of irresponsibility and stupidity.
I wish to state publicly as strongly as possible, that I believe that God created doctors, medicine and chemistry for a very specific reason, to improve the quality of life for the majority of people in the world. Even though Jesus destroyed all diseases and healed us all once and for all, few people especially “believers” are aware of that truth. Collective unbelief has generated illnesses that have made doctors and medicine a necessity. Our belief level has been so polluted by poor teaching, ignorance, skepticism, the (hilarious to God), dependence on the superiority of our intellect and for a myriad of other reasons. A great doctor has blessed this ministry with his service on our board of directors and with his support and teaching. Can I be more clear?)
In order to understand health and healing, it is important to consult the teachings of the Creator and the One who sustains all things that exist. That would be Jesus.
” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Same was in the beginning with God. ALL THINGS were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.”
“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us , and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of Grace and Truth.”
(John 1:1-3&14)
“God, who at sundry times and in diverse manners spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of ALL THINGS, BY WHOM ALSO HE MADE THE WORLDS, Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding ALL THINGS by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
(Hebrews 1:1-3)
The following scriptures verify scientific thought and establish a level of subatomic and microscopic authority that is critical to the understanding of health and healing:
” Who Is (Jesus) the image of the invisible God, the first born of every creature: FOR BY HIM WERE ALL THINGS CREATED, [ in the event that the reader may be of the liberal persuasion and requires political correctness, he/she may apply the phrase…intelligently designed.] THAT ARE IN HEAVEN, AND IN EARTH, VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE, Whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL THINGS WERE CREATED BY HIM, and for Him. And He is before ALL THINGS, AND BY HIM, ALL THINGS CONSIST.”
(Colossians 1:15&16)
“Through faith, we understand that the worlds were constructed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
(Hebrews 11:1)
This is one of the most amazing scriptures in the Bible for at least two reasons: First, we just studied John1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” and John1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Here, Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit writes that Jesus constructed the World and we know that God also Spoke the World into existence through His Words.
“And God SAID, let there be light.” (Genesis 1:3)
The second amazing fact of this scripture is the condition of the writer. Paul was a lawyer. By his own description he was a man skilled in the letters. That fact is proven by reading his writings. However, Paul had no flesh knowledge of the things about which he wrote here. He could not possibly have known that God created the things that we see from atoms and molecules. Yet, that is precisely what he is writing about. To the best of my knowledge, Paul did not own an electron microscope. And I feel quite certain that he didn’t even know where to buy one. Yet his writing is 100% accurate. Not only that, but the most advanced scientific brains of our sophisticated world are just now learning what that scripture means.
At this moment scientists are just now understanding the most elementary facts of the unseen worlds. Scientists are learning that if you look at sub-atomic particles through super-high-powered magnification, that they seem to sense that they are being observed and tend to transform themselves. In fact they can not find the end to the sub-atomic construction of the human body. They know that each of the three hundred trillion cells that make up our body possess a nucleus and that within each of those cells is a nuclei within which is a strip of d.n.a. which all by itself could completely and perfectly reproduce everything about us. And the subatomic particles contained in those cells have subatomic particles within them.
OK, so the Bible tells us that God created us from infinite unseen matter. And, that Jesus is in all of that matter and that He sustains it and controls it. How are we doing so far?
What, you are probably asking is what does this have to do with receiving healing? The answer is, Everything!!!!!!!!!!!
Open the eyes of your Spirit. Use the 90% of your brain, that for most of us gets little exercise. That 90% belongs to the unseen world and in fact is the residence of the Holy Spirit and the Kingdom of God. When you were a child, you were told that it was your imagination. Engage it! Turn it’s power up like a stereo at a Saturday night party in Statesboro Georgia.
Back in the day, there was a great man of God. This man was a Prophet. His name was Isaiah. Isaiah heard the voice of God clearly. God loved Isaiah and showed Him the future and the past. Then God through the power and direction of the Holy Spirit, helped Isaiah write what he had seen. In the scriptures that follow, we will learn what Isaiah saw Jesus do for us. In order to understand what Isaiah, who was a Jew wrote, it is best that we examine the words of his language, Hebrew.
We will start with English and then examine this news report in part, as written in Hebrew:
” Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem Him smitten and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.”
The first words of this teaching explain how and when Jesus destroyed disease. It says that He took our diseases away and threw them in to the pit. ( That last sentence is a quotation from Bible teacher, Jerry Thomas of JT ministries.) Let us break this down.
The word “Surely”, is derived from the word Omnam which does not translate well into English but is extremely emphatic. It is spoken with the strongest inflection and means, Indeed, without doubt, absolutely, in all truth, beyond the shadow of any doubt! It is the basis of the same word Jesus used frequently to add the strongest emphasis possible, VERILY or in truth spoken by GOD.
The word “Borne”, is rooted in the Hebrew word Nacah, which means…To Carry Away! To eternally put and end to.
The word “Griefs”, comes from the Hebrew words Chalah and Choliy which mean malady, anxiety, calamity, and DISEASE. It also means weakness, sickness and afflicted. In order to understand what Jesus took away for us, let’s look at the definition of these words using Websters Dictionary as the source:
Disease: An unhealthy condition or malady.
Malady: A physical, moral or mental disorder.
Infirmity: Quality or state of being infirm, physically or morally weak.
Calamity: A disastrous event causing great misery {a state of great distress or adversity}
Sickness: illness, being sick. A disease. Vomiting or the desire to vomit.
Weakness: Having little strength, lacking force, able to resist only small strains, low in intensity, having a desired quality in only a slight degree.
Anxiety: Intense dread, nagging worry.
Now, let’s consider this scripture, being certain to use only the words that Isaiah wrote, yet in a way that makes sense to us. Here is how that looks:
” I tell you in the truth that GOD speaks, that I saw Jesus suffer ALL nature of our: lack of strength in all areas, unhealthy conditions, physical, moral or mental disorders, illnesses and diseases, disastrous events that cause great misery and intense dreads and nagging worries. And by suffering them for us, He took them away forever.”
Isaiah said that he saw people look at Jesus on the cross and consider Him to be afflicted and sick and bruised. In the preceding chapter Isaiah describes what Jesus looked like when He bore our diseases and infirmities on the cross. Imagine the worst nightmare you have ever seen. Imagine, God in the flesh suffering on the cross, with elephantiasis, leukemia, cancer, aids, ecola, tuberculosis, c.o.p.d., muscular dystrophy, scoliosis, pneumonia, lupus, every blood poison known and unknown, thyroid disorders, blindness, deafness, muteness, boils, diabetes, every mental disorder known and unknown, Alzheimer disease. If you can stand to think of such a sight you will understand what Isaiah wrote in chapter 52 verse 14:
“As many were astonished at You; His vision was so marred more than any man, and His form more than all of the sons of men.” It must have made those who saw it violently ill.
If then, Jesus took ALL of these things on for us at the cross, why does disease exist?
It is my firm belief that if at any time since then, if people had received and believed what Jesus actually accomplished on the cross; and in His death, burial, resurrection and ascension, people would still be living to be 500 years old. Because, the human immune system would have been so strengthened by belief, that it would repel any attacker. That said, disease does exist. Why are Christians then not walking in divine health? Here for your consideration are my top five answers.
(1.) satanic influence and mind poisoning.
(2.) Unbelief.
A. Collective Unbelief of Mankind in the Power of the Name of Jesus and the absolute guarantee of the truth of His Words.
B.Doubt in the heart, producing negative word curses, producing death by self fulfilled prophecy.
(3.) Christians placing themselves under a performance based relationship with God.
(4.) Life choices. Suicide by flesh.
(5.) Transfer of power
Let’s examine these one by one:
(1.) satanic influence and mind poisoning. Jesus explained this one directly:
“The thief comes to steal, and to kill and to destroy; I am come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.”
The facts of the above are so self evident that they need no further explanation.
(2.) Unbelief.
A. Collective unbelief. Before we go any farther, lets make a couple of things crystal clear. I abhor the concept, judgment and condemnation held by many Preachers and Teachers that everyone who dies from an illness or accident died because of their lack of belief or faith. To that I say HUMBUG! Do some people die from their lack of faith and belief? Absolutely. Do all? God Forbid! Some of the strongest believers and faith users I have ever seen died from cancer or some other disease. How then do strong believers and faith users die from disease? Here is the answer to that question:
Jesus was in Capernum, the town where His ministry was based. The people there had known Jesus since He was a child. They had seen Jesus heal the deaf, blind, paralyzed, demon possessed, lepers, raise the dead and many other astonishing miracles. Yet, read the words that they spoke and the result:
” And He went out from there and came to His own country; and His disciples followed Him. And when the sabbath day came, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given to Him. that even such mighty works are done by His hands?
” Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended (the Greek word from which offended is derived means, tripped up, made to stumble, shocked) at Him.”
“But Jesus said to them, ” A Prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and among his own family, and in His own House.”
” AND HE COULD THERE DO NO MIGHTY WORK, except that He laid His hands on a few sick folk, and healed them.”
(Mark 6:5)
Was Jesus unable to do miracles in Capernum? No!!!!!!! He was and is God!!! Of course He could do miracles there. The problem was not with Jesus. Were there people there who believed in Jesus beyond the shadow of a doubt? Yes!
The problem in Capernum, was that the collective unbelief of the people, would overcome any miracle that Jesus could or would have done. The collective unbelief of humanity in the power of Jesus has had the same effect on the world today. Cancer, Aids, Heart disease, all of the killers that are epidemic in the world today were generated by and perpetuated by collective unbelief.
B. Doubt in the heart producing negative word curses, producing death by self-fulfilled prophecy. The best way to explain this is by the teachings of Jesus:
” Have faith in God. For verily I say to you, That whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and cast into the sea and…DOES NOT DOUBT IN HIS HEART…but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass, he shall have WHATSOEVER HE SAYS.”
(Mark 11:22&23)
Please note the positive and negative promises in this teaching. Jesus says that whatever we believe in our hearts without doubt and that we make a decision to believe beyond the shadow of a doubt, and speak we shall have. GOOD OR BAD! Have you ever heard somebody say without doubt, that they thought that they were catching the flu? Have you ever heard someone say that, and believe it without doubt in their hearts and not get the flu? I knew a man who told me that he knew that he was going to die young and he had no doubt in his heart about it. He did!
Here is another scripture that connects spiritually to Mark 11:22&3:
” Oh generation of snakes, how can you being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the treasure of the heart brings forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings evil things.”
(Matthew12:34&35)
Translated into modern English: You generation of snakes! How can you being unbelievers in My Words or in Me, speak good things? What you believe in your hearts without doubt, you will say! A good man, a man who believes My Words and Believes in Me will have a treasure of good thoughts and words in his heart and he will speak them into existence. An evil man who does not believe in My Words or in Me, will have a treasure of nasty, negative things in his heart and he will speak them into existence.
(3.) Christians trying to please God by their performance and believing that God requires such: Read what Paul our teacher writes on this subject:
” For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse (see Deuteronomy 28: beginning with the 15th verse for a thorough explanation of what trying to please God by works, which by the way, is impossible; produces.) for it is written, CURSED IS EVERYONE THAT CONTINUES NOT IN ALL THINGS THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO. (good luck!) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, is evident for, the just shall live by faith.”
(Galatians 3:10)
Paul is explaining through the Holy Spirit that anybody who tries to please God by their behavior is responsible for keeping all of the Law of Moses and the attached 600 ordinances. Here is a little exclamation point for Paul’s teaching on works:
” JESUS IS BECOME OF NO EFFECT TO YOU, WHOSOEVER OF YOU ARE JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW, YOU HAVE FALLEN FROM GRACE”.
(Galatians 5:4)
(4.) Life Choices, suicide by flesh. Fairly self explanatory…cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, S.T.D’s, gluttony, playing catch with bottles of nitro glycerin.
(5.) Transfer of power. Believing more in Doctor’s, medicine, diseases, the nightly news, and the voices of others than in the Word of God.
HERE COMES THE GOOD PART! THIS IS YOUR REWARD FOR HANGING IN THERE!
So, how do we avoid illness or once we have contracted it, how do we receive healing? How do we pray for the sick? What do we say to a person who is sick with a life threatening illness? No man can answer these questions, but God can and did!!!!!! All we can do is report what God said, it is up to the reader to use the inheritance that Jesus died to guarantee. Each individual must make decisions and accept the gift of God or reject it, or partially accept it on their own. I would NEVER tell a person what action to take or what to do facing these situations. All I am, All any Pastor is, is a mailman. Our sole job is to deliver God’s mail. We have been hired to teach what God has said. Here then, are the Words of God:
” He that sees Me, sees Him that sent me.”
(John 12:45)
” If you had know me, you should have known the Father also: from now on, you know Him and have seen Him.”
(John 14:7)
Jesus is clearly establishing His identity as God come to the earth in the flesh to explain Himself and His promises and our responsibility to Him; in person.
“Verily, verily I say to you, he that believes in me the works that I do, shall he do also, and greater than these shall he do, because I go to my Father. And whatsoever you shall ask IN MY NAME, that will I do, that the Father shall be glorified in the son, and anything you ask I will do.”
( John 14:12-14 )
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and HEALING ALL MANNER OF SICKNESS AND ALL MANNER OF DISEASE AMONG THE PEOPLE. And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought to Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were insane, and those which had the palsy; AND HE HEALED THEM ALL.”
(Matthew 4:23&24)
Consider the two scriptures above, together. The following scriptures are a definition of the qualifications of a disciple of Jesus and a commandment to His disciples:
” If you continue in my Word, you are my disciple’s indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
(John 8:31&32)
” Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give.”
(Matthew 10:8)
” Verily, verily I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man,(make His Words the energy source of your life by believing them and speaking them) and drink His blood, (make a decision to believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that Jesus guaranteed His Words with His blood) you have no life in you.”
(John6:53&54)
“It is the Spirit that quickens (makes alive) the flesh (our human behavior) counts for nothing! My Words, they are Spirit and they are life, but there are those among you who do not believe.”
(John6:63&64)
” Until now, you have asked nothing IN MY NAME, ask that you may receive that your joy may be full.”
(John 16:24)
” If you live in Me, and my Words live in you, you shall ask what you wish, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, so shall you be my disciples.”
(John 15:7&8)
” Have faith in God, for verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and cast into the sea; and DOES NOT DOUBT IN HIS HEART, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he says. Therefore I say to you, What things soever you desire, when you pray believe that you receive them and you shall have them.”
(Mark 11:22-24)
” Verily, I say to you, whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever, you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. FOR WHERE TWO OR THREE ARE GATHERED IN MY NAME, THERE IN THE MIDST AM I.
(Matthew 18:18-20)
” Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door shall be opened to you. For everyone that asks, receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son asks bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will he give him a snake? If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father in heaven give good things, to those who ask?”
(Matthew 7:7-11)
” And these signs shall follow them that believe; IN MY NAME shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them, ( It is urgent to understand that in this case, Jesus is speaking not about snakes and poison literally, but about the fact that He has empowered us to overcome every power of the evil one.) THEY SHALL LAY HANDS ON THE SICK, AND THE SICK SHALL RECOVER.”
(Mark 16:17&18)
” Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; AND THE PRAYER OF FAITH SHALL SAVE THE SICK, AND THE LORD SHALL RAISE HIM UP; AND IF HE HAS COMMITTED SINS, THEY SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM.”
(James 5:14&15)
” I beheld satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give to you power to tread on scorpions and serpents (again, Jesus is speaking to the strongest powers of the evil one, and not literally arachnids and reptiles.) and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means harm you.”
(Luke 10:18&19)
And finally my dear and patient reader, my favorite word on healing in the Bible: This comes from Peter and it is framed in the perspective of his experience on the mount of transfiguration, where he literally saw Jesus in His glorified and exalted position and heard God proclaim in His own voice that Jesus was in fact His Son. Peter speaks of the Word of God framed in that experience:
” For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty. For He received from God the Father, honor and glory, when there came from Heaven a voice to Him from the excellent glory THIS IS MY SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.”
“WE HAVE ALSO A MORE SURE WORD OF PROPHECY: where-unto you do well that you pay attention to, like a bright light shining in a dark room, until the day dawns and the day star rises in your heart!”
(Peter 1: 16-19)
