Giving Thanks To Our God And Father

As Thanksgiving day approaches, think about the thanks that are due to the triune God. God Our Father, Jesus Our Lord, The Holy Spirit, All In One, One In All.

Thanksgiving is the day we set aside to give thanks to God. In truth, we should give thanks to God all day everyday. And not just thanks, but as our messenger from the Holy Spirit, Paul, taught us: Praise, Laudation and Eulogy. Here are his exact words,”May blessing (Praise, Laudation and Eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in Jesus with every Spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm!

Think on the word Eulogy. Have you ever heard a short eulogy? Of course not! A eulogy is the time when all of the wonderful attributes of a life well lived are extolled by the loved ones of a person who has moved on. They are thoroughly rehearsed and well thought out. The word laudation means a praising commendation. Praise is to express approval or appreciation or admiration. The combination of these is not a prayer that goes like this: “Thanks for everything God lets eat!”

Thanksgiving has become a holiday gathering of family and friends. A feast of camaraderie. There is alcohol and food and football and catching up with the goings on of those dear to us, family pictures and much happiness and there is not one thing wrong with that.

But how cool would it be, if we actually had a day of Giving Thanks?

Really, no work, no noise, no booze, no football, no chatter. Just a day when we spent the entire day praising, lauding and giving thanks to God for everything he has done for us. The most therapeutic thing anyone can ever do is to sit down and write a gratitude list. That is just a simple list of the things for which one is thankful to God. The healing in such an exercise comes in the realization of all that He has done for us and how real He is! Wouldn’t that be awesome???

Paul taught us that we should be anxious for nothing but in all things with and in every circumstance come to the Lord with thanksgiving in our hearts.

David taught us how to behave in this short Psalm:
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God! (Not Allah or Buda or a Cow or your intellect or anyone or anything else)
It is He who has made us, not we ourselves[and we are his] We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name! For the Lord is good;HIs mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness endure to all generations”. AMEN

What has God done for you? Cant think of anything? Here are a few things:
